Back to School
안녕하세요! Today was the first day of my Korean classes!
Back in high school, I was super into Korean dramas and Kpop. My iPod was full of songs from DBSK, Big Bang and Epik High, and I’d literally stay up until 3am watching episode after episode of Coffee Prince with school the next day.
As part of the obsession, I wanted to actually understand what I was hearing and reading. So with the power of the internet, I began to teach myself how to read Korean. Amazing, right? Not really… Korean, as I soon found out, was actually fairly easy to learn. As a native English speaker, it was fairly easy to learn since Korean is essentially an alphabet. I taught myself how to read Korean, but I had no idea what I was actually reading…
Soon, I was off to college, and I was lucky! My school offered Korean classes. Huzzah! In a heartbeat, I totally signed up. What’s more, I was part of the inaugural class at my school. This was quite a few years ago, and while I learned a lot, and I had such an amazing teacher (who I still keep in touch to this day!), I’ve been extremely out of practice. Hence why, I signed up for some Korean classes!
Today was my first day in Korean class and it was so refreshing to be back in school and learning about something I’m genuinely and wholeheartedly interested in. This was just my first class, but they also offer so many other language classes and I’m hoping to really tap into my passion for languages.
화이팅!
